It's always inspiring to learn about small business ventures taking off; hearing how they've come up with a product, and seeing how their dreams are panning out.

We were approached by just such a 'man with a plan' last week and impressed with both his vision and his product.

While the bike carrier space is fairly crowded with models from lightweight plastic, to refined alloy units and a multiplicity of configurations to suit roof mounts, towbar or tailgate or even suction cup clamps, Andrew Taylor, owner of Shingleback Off Road is unfazed. Along with MTB trailers and other off road gear, he has designed and is manufacturing a new range of towbar mounted bike racks.

The new Shingleback Rack comes in either 4, 5 or 6 bike capacities, all 100% Australian designed and made.  Taylor says his aim is to make products that are strong, practical and able to "simply do it better". The Shingleback hangs bikes from the front wheel and straps the rear, resulting in a space efficient and seemingly robust method of fastening.

While we're yet to see one in the flesh, images of the racks in use seem impressive.
