Bicycle Imports Stay Strong for August and September

Bicycle imports are continuing their upward trend from last year. In August, 134,603 bikes were imported, up from 130,788 for August 2012. September also saw a slight year on year rise, 172,463 units compared to 167,454 last year.

These figures continue the trend so far for 2012 where every month has been higher, year on year, than the same month in 2012, with the exception of February.

With the third quarter data now complete, as expected, the quarterly total is up on last year, but still slightly down on some previous years, including most recently 2010. The cumulative total of bikes imported for the year to date is also a fraction down on 2010, being 849,809 units compared to 883,498 units in 2010.

Australian Customs collect bicycle import figures which are then collated by Bicycle Industries Australia (BIA). Full data including comparison tables and charts are made available to BIA members only.

BIA have kindly permitted us to publish summary figures and commentary when each new quarter’s data is released.
