Bicycle Imports Steady for New Financial Year

Bicycle imports current financial year have got off to a solid start, without breaking any records.
In September 55,807 children’s bikes and 115,071 adult bicycles were imported for a total of 170,878, which is just over 10,000 units higher than the same month last year’s total of 160,271.
Overall for the September quarter, 133,591 children’s bikes and 289,046 adult bikes were imported for a total of 422,637 units. This is 3% up on last year’s total for the September quarter of 408,088. All of the growth has been in adult bicycles. In fact the number of children’s bikes imported for the September quarter this year compared to last year is actually down by almost 10,000 units from 143,281 to 133,591.
The average unit value of bicycles imported is continuing to trend up gradually over time.
Australian Customs collect bicycle import figures which are then collated by Bicycle Industries Australia (BIA). Full data including comparison tables and charts are made available to BIA members only. BIA has kindly permitted us to publish summary figures and commentary when each new month’s data is released.
