Lunch crowds were kept entertained when the Sydney Rides Festival Mechanics Challenge took centre stage in Martin Place on Wednesday 25 October.

Mechanics from Sydney’s best bike shops battled it out, seeing who could strip and rebuild a bike the fastest, and even remove, reinflate and reinstall a tyre blindfolded.

Mechanics from The Rolling Fix, Sydney Electric Bikes, Omafiets Dutch Bicycles, Glow Worm Bicycles, BikeWise and the NSW Police Force participated.

Independent mechanic Will Lehmann took home the coveted trophy, narrowly pipping Cameron Harrison from The Rolling Fix for the title. Sydney’s cycling Deputy Lord Mayor Jess Miller presented prizes at the event which was MC’d by Channel 7’s Mark Beretta.

The 2017 Sydney Rides Festival featured 25 events designed to help people rediscover the bicycle, ranging from a calorie neutral guided bike tour of Sydney’s best chocolate shops, to the annual Spring Cycle across the Harbour Bridge and even speed dating by bike. More than 5,000 people attended the festival finale last Saturday evening; a traffic-free, illuminated, Halloween bike ride around Mrs Macquaries Point. For more information visit sydneycycleways.net
