Application for increased tariff costs on bicycles withdrawn

While eBikes have recently had changes to import tariffs that will see prices rise, a decision was announced yesterday that a request for revocation of the tariff concession orders (TCO) for bicycles, bike frames (carbon or aluminium) and frames with or without forks, has been withdrawn.

The previously instated concession on the standing tariff has meant imported bikes in the specified categories were not subject to the 5% tariff.

According to the BIA "less than 0.05% of bicycles sold in Australia manufactured locally, it appears common sense has prevailed."

The withdrawal of the application was announced in the Department of Home Affairs weekly gazette on Wednesday the 7th of March.
