In a joint press release by GPI Apollo Bicycles and Southcott Pty Limited Cycle Division released on Thursday 8th June, Southcott advised that after 85 years it has decided to exit the cycle industry with effect from 30 September 2017.
GPI Apollo Bicycles has been announced as the new distributor for Felt Bicycles as well as exclusive distributor for Buzz Rack, Ice Toolz and EchoWell computers in Australia.
Southcott and Apollo Bicycles will be working together over the ensuing months to ensure a smooth transition of Felt and the other key brands whilst all brands will be under Apollo Bicycles effective management from 1 July 2017.
The release continued, “Southcott would like to thank Jim Felt, Bill Duehring and Michael Mullman for the opportunity they provided the Southcott Group to become the prime distributor of Felt Bicycles in Australia for so many years.”
Simon Burke Managing Director commented, “Apollo Bicycles will be the exclusive distributor for the Felt brand in Australia and are excited with the opportunity to work closely with bicycle dealers to bring the Felt product to market. Felt has an outstanding reputation in the industry and our strong national network is a great fit as Felt look forward at the prosects in our market.”
GPI Apollo Bicycles will be launching Felt Bicycles as well as Buzz Rack, Ice Toolz and EchoWell at its bike show in Melbourne in July. Jake Duehring will be attending personally and available to discuss the Felt product in detail with prospective customers.
Apollo will be taking Southcott’s stock and transferring it to its own warehouse.
Meanwhile Southcott’s Melbourne based bicycle division staff were told the news on Thursday afternoon 8th June. They were understandibly shocked to hear of the end Southcott's almost century long involvement in the bicycle industry which we understand will result in redundancies. We hope to bring you an update in an upcoming post.
