Most of you reading this would have seen the news item of two cyclists being attacked by a cougar while riding on a bush track in the Rocky Mountains of the USA with, sadly, one losing his life.
Equally sad was the action of the forest rangers to track down and kill the cougar. Surely the animal could have been subdued and relocated.
Bears are usually the animal to be wary of. They can be quick when they want to be, but a cyclist can out-pedal them. However a cougar is a big cat and super-fast and agile.
So if you have a customer going for a cycling holiday in the wilds of Washington State, suggest they practice their sprint, or take a stun gun with them.
